Lebanon’s government has given the army a mandate to create a plan that will restrict weapons to state forces by the end of the year.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced the decision on Tuesday after a lengthy cabinet meeting focused on disarming Hezbollah.

The army has been tasked with presenting an “implementation plan” to the cabinet by the end of August.
The goal is to ensure that only the Lebanese army and other government forces are legally permitted to possess weapons.
