American basketball legend, LeBron James, has once again etched his name deeper into basketball history, breaking the NBA record for most regular-season games played.
The milestone came during the Los Angeles Lakers’ clash with the Orlando Magic on Saturday, marking his 1,612th appearance and surpassing the long-standing record of 1,611 set by Robert Parish in 1997.
At 41, and now in his unprecedented 23rd season, James continues to redefine longevity and elite performance. He had drawn level with Parish just two days earlier in remarkable fashion, delivering a triple-double against the Miami Heat after a demanding travel schedule that saw the Lakers arrive in Florida at 4 a.m. following a win in Houston.
“He’s got to be insane; there’s nothing left to prove, but he finds something to continue to motivate him.” Teammate Austin Reaves summed up the disbelief surrounding James’s consistency, adding that despite having every reason to ease off, James remains fully committed in training, film sessions, and games, an indication of what he described as a unique mental wiring.

James’s career is already decorated with numerous records, including all-time points scored and the longest streak of games with at least 10 points. Yet, he maintains that such milestones were never his primary target.
“It’s not like I’m writing things down; those things were not in my mind,” he said, reflecting on his journey.
Including playoff appearances, James has now featured in 1,904 games, placing him well ahead of legends like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Still, for James, availability remains a core principle. “I’ve always wanted to be available to my teammates,” he noted, acknowledging both the physical and mental demands of such durability.
