Leeds United secured their first home Premier League victory since the opening day, deepening West Ham’s woes with a convincing win at Elland Road.

The result lifted Daniel Farke’s men to 13th in the table, while West Ham stayed second from bottom after suffering their seventh defeat in nine league matches.

Brenden Aaronson gave Leeds an early lead inside three minutes, and Joe Rodon doubled the advantage just 14 minutes later — the club’s quickest two-goal start in a top-flight game since April 2004.

Both goals came from poor defending, with Ollie Scarles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at fault for the opener, as Aaronson pounced after Noah Okafor’s header was parried. Rodon’s header soon followed from Sean Longstaff’s corner, capitalising on more slack marking.

West Ham’s travelling fans endured another frustrating night, with only a late consolation from Mateus Fernandes offering brief relief in a third straight defeat — their worst league start since 1973–74.

Nuno Espírito Santo remains winless in four matches since replacing Graham Potter, and the evening worsened when teenage defender Scarles was forced off injured.  Lucas Paquetá also saw a goal ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Leeds Analysis: Aaronson Inspires Attacking Revival

Leeds finally found their scoring touch after early-season struggles, dismantling the league’s weakest defence. Aaronson, outstanding throughout, netted his first Premier League goal since August 2022 and struck the bar with another effort.

Rodon’s goal marked the ninth West Ham had conceded from a corner this season — a record high after the same number of games in Premier League history.

Leeds could have added more through Ethan Ampadu, Okafor, and Jack Harrison but held firm defensively to seal the win.
West Ham Analysis: Nuno Faces Early Pressure

Nuno’s side looked disjointed and uninspired, extending their poor form to just four points from nine matches — their joint-worst start ever. His tactical choices, including fielding full-backs on opposite flanks, backfired badly.

Despite introducing Callum Wilson early on, the Hammers struggled for cohesion and urgency, raising real fears of a relegation battle. With upcoming home fixtures against Newcastle and Burnley, Nuno must halt the slide to prevent a full-blown crisis.

Leeds visit Brighton on Saturday, November 1 (15:00 GMT), while West Ham host Newcastle the following day (14:00 GMT).

Player of the Match: Joe Rodon
