Leicester Make Unwanted History in Dismal 4-0 Home Loss to Brentford

Leicester City’s relegation woes deepened on Friday as they slumped to a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Brentford at the King Power Stadium, marking a new low in their troubled Premier League campaign.

A win would have lifted Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side out of the drop zone, but instead, they remain two points from safety after a disastrous first half saw Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, and Christian Norgaard all find the net.

Fabio Carvalho sealed Brentford’s dominant display with a late goal, as Leicester’s miserable run extended to 10 defeats in their last 11 league games.

The Foxes also made unwanted Premier League history, becoming the first team in the competition’s era to lose six consecutive home matches without scoring. With just 12 games left, they face the real prospect of an immediate return to the Championship.

Following Enzo Maresca’s departure to Chelsea after leading Leicester to promotion last season, the club’s Thai owners have struggled to find a suitable replacement.

Steve Cooper lasted only five months before being dismissed, and Van Nistelrooy’s tenure has fared no better. The Dutchman has won just two of his 15 league matches in charge, with Leicester managing only four victories all season.

Van Nistelrooy’s first glimpse of Leicester’s struggles came in November when he watched them suffer a heavy defeat at Brentford before officially taking charge. This time, however, he had no excuses as his side was dismantled with ease.

Jamie Vardy, needing just two goals to reach 200 in all competitions for Leicester, nearly gave his side a dream start, but his early effort was well saved by Mark Flekken.

Brentford quickly took control in the 17th minute when Kevin Schade’s clever back-heel found Mikkel Damsgaard, whose pinpoint pass allowed Wissa to fire home his 13th goal of the season past Mads Hermansen.

Ten minutes later, Brentford doubled their lead as Mbeumo cut inside from the right and curled a stunning strike into the far corner for his 15th goal of the campaign.

With Leicester in complete disarray, Brentford struck again in the 32nd minute. Mbeumo’s free-kick caused chaos in the Leicester box, allowing Norgaard to rise unchallenged and head past Hermansen. Hundreds of frustrated Leicester fans left the stadium before half-time.

Brentford nearly added to Leicester’s misery when Kristoffer Ajer hit the post, but the visitors weren’t finished. In the 89th minute, Carvalho completed the rout, calmly finishing from Mbeumo’s pass to compound the Foxes’ despair.

Leicester now face an uphill battle to salvage their season, while Thomas Frank’s Brentford celebrated a commanding win that moved them into the top half of the table.
