Liverpool ended a troubling four-match losing streak with a commanding 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday, with Hugo Ekitike scoring against his former club.

The Reds fell behind once again, conceding to Rasmus Kristensen on the counter, marking the fifth consecutive game in which they had allowed the first goal. Manager Arne Slot had opted to bench the struggling Mohamed Salah, but Liverpool quickly turned the match around, netting three goals within 10 minutes to lead 3-1 by half-time. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate scored headers from set-pieces, while Ekitike’s levelling strike injected momentum into the team.

Florian Wirtz, returning to Germany and finally breaking his goal contribution drought, set up second-half goals for Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai, sealing a comfortable win. Meanwhile, Alexander Isak once again failed to make an impact and was substituted at half-time for Federico Chiesa.

The result provides a major boost to Liverpool’s confidence, though Frankfurt—conceding 23 goals in their past six matches—posed a relatively weak test. Liverpool dominated possession and used quick, incisive counterattacks to control the game. Wirtz’s creativity, coupled with Van Dijk and Konate’s aerial threat from corners, proved decisive.

Liverpool now look to build on this emphatic victory as they face more formidable opponents in the Champions League, signalling a potential end to their worst losing run in 73 years.
