Liverpool’s Kelleher Set for Brentford Move in £18m Deal

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is reportedly close to completing a move to Brentford in a transfer that could be worth up to £18 million, according to multiple reports on Sunday.

The Republic of Ireland international has served as deputy to Liverpool’s first-choice keeper, Alisson Becker, and played 10 Premier League matches this season when the Brazilian was sidelined through injury.

Despite his contributions, Kelleher has been eager to secure a move away from Anfield to find regular first-team football.

Brentford are said to have agreed to an initial fee of £12.5 million, with the total value of the deal potentially increasing to £18 million through add-ons linked to performance clauses.

The 26-year-old, who has one year remaining on his Liverpool contract, had attracted attention from several Premier League sides, including Leeds United, West Ham, and Bournemouth.

Kelleher rose to prominence with his decisive role in Liverpool’s 2022 League Cup final victory over Chelsea, making key saves and converting a penalty in an 11-10 shootout win. He was also in goal for the Reds during their 2024 League Cup final triumph—again against Chelsea.

With Kelleher set to exit Merseyside, Liverpool have lined up Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili as his replacement. The Georgian shot-stopper is expected to join new Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s squad for the upcoming season, following an agreement reached last year.

Kelleher’s move to west London comes as Brentford prepare for the departure of their current goalkeeper, Mark Flekken, who is reportedly set to sign for Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £9 million.
