London Mayor Sadiq Khan has arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, engaging with creatives, tech innovators, and entrepreneurs in a landmark trade mission spanning several African cities. The visit is designed to deepen cultural and economic ties between the UK and Nigeria, with a strong focus on the booming tech and creative sectors.
“This is the fastest-growing tech cluster in the world. London is the tech capital of Europe, Lagos is the tech capital of Africa,” Khan stated. “I’ve brought more than two dozen British companies in sustainability and tech to Lagos, not as patrons but as partners, so both our great cities can flourish and thrive.”
The event drew a vibrant mix of artists, designers, startup founders, and cultural influencers, all converging at the intersection of innovation and storytelling. Industry leaders emphasise that this cross-continental exchange is a wellspring of creativity and insight.

“There’s a lot we must learn from London,” said Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Founding Partner at Future Africa. “From infrastructure and global talent to livability and regulation, especially on ethical AI, this collaboration is essential.”
As global eyes turn to Nigeria’s surging tech ecosystem—often dubbed “Silicon Lagoon”—the nation’s youthful demographics and fintech momentum are setting the pace for innovation in the region.
“We are here to build a bridge stronger than broadband in Victoria Island and faster than the Elizabeth Line,” remarked Olatunbosun Alake, Lagos State Commissioner for Science and Technology.
Khan’s stop in Lagos marks the beginning of a five-day African tour, with subsequent visits to Accra, Johannesburg, and Cape Town. Lagos continues to distinguish itself on the global stage, celebrated for its influence in fashion, music, film, and financial technology.
