Lookman Shrugs Off Osimhen Spat

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has downplayed Victor Osimhen’s heated exchange with teammates during Nigeria’s match against Mozambique, describing the incident as “just football”.

Nigeria recorded a convincing 4–0 win over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, securing a place in the quarter-finals.

Osimhen scored twice in the match, while Lookman and Akor Adams added the other goals to cap a dominant display by the Super Eagles.

Despite the emphatic victory, tensions briefly surfaced in the second half when Osimhen appeared to react angrily towards Lookman for reasons that remain unclear. Other players stepped in to calm the situation.

Moments later, the Galatasaray striker, still visibly frustrated, signalled to the bench and was substituted, with Moses Simon coming on in his place.

Speaking after the match, Lookman dismissed the incident as insignificant and stressed that it had no impact on team unity.

He also praised Osimhen’s role in the squad, calling him the team’s “number one guy” and referring to him as his “brother”.

“I haven’t seen Osimhen, but that doesn’t matter,” Lookman said. “Vic is our number one guy, everyone knows he’s a top striker, so all of that doesn’t matter.

“It’s just football. It’s always football. He is my brother.”

Nigeria will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter-finals on January 10.
