The Kano State House of Assembly by-elections on Saturday recorded low voter turnout across several polling units in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area, despite the early arrival of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that by mid-morning, many polling units had only a handful of voters, while INEC officials were seated and ready, awaiting more constituents.

Security personnel were deployed strategically to maintain order and safeguard voters and election staff.

Alhaji Abdullahi Isa expressed surprise at the low turnout and commended the security agencies for their professionalism.

Voter Audu Musa described the process as smooth and peaceful but expressed concerns about the low turnout.

Stakeholders hoped for a peaceful, transparent, and credible election, and electoral officials remained hopeful that turnout could improve later in the day.
