The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has thrown its weight behind the bid for re-election of current FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

FAM’s endorsement comes after the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) also resolved to back Infantino’s bid for a fresh mandate to lead the world soccer governing body.

However, an official endorsement from CAF has previously proven no guarantee of votes for presidential candidates as many African associations have broken ranks in past elections.

Infantino is seeking a full four-year term after replacing Sepp Blatter in 2016 following the FIFA corruption scandal.
