Mali’s VP, Assimi Goita Dismisses President and PM

Mali’s interim vice president, Colonel Assimi Goita, on Tuesday ousted the Interim President and Prime Minister because they failed to consult him about the nomination of a new government, violating the transitional charter.

Colonel Assimi Goita, who led the coup that overthrew then-President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in last August said “the government led by Moctar Ouane has shown itself incapable of being a reliable partner.”

Goita disclosed in a statement that the removal of Modibo Koné and Sadio Camara without his approval was a “violation of the transitional charter” and the “oath taken [by Bah N’Daw] on September 25, 2020. He “was obliged to act” to “preserve the transitional charter and defend the Republic.”
