A man who was filmed harassing a News Central TV camera crew during the recent fire at Central Plaza, near Mandilas Market, Lagos Island, in Lagos, has issued a public apology.
The man, who went viral after the incident, explained his actions in a video, stating he was frustrated after losing all his goods in the fire, many of which he had bought on credit. “I pushed him because I was asking him to leave at that moment. All we needed then was the fire service to come and quench the fire, not journalists,” he said

He admitted his behaviour was wrong and expressed his regret. The man said he would not hesitate to get on his knees to personally apologise to the crew member involved.

This public apology comes after News Central’s management issued a press release on September 17, calling the harassment of their team “unacceptable.” The company stated that such actions violate the press freedom guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and undermine the media’s vital role in informing the public.
