English Premier League side Manchester United has dismissed Ruben Amorim from his position as head coach after he openly criticised the insufficient support he received in the role.
The Portuguese manager clashed with the United leadership over the weekend, claiming that he was not granted the authority to function as a ‘manager,’ even though his official title is ‘head coach.’
”With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly decided that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best possible opportunity for a Premier League finish.” the club said in a statement on Monday.

Amorim was responsible for overseeing training and achieving positive outcomes on the field, but he felt he should have been afforded more autonomy to reshape the first-team squad in a way that aligned with his particular style of play.
Amorim was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
Former player Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.
