Manchester United has finalised the acquisition of RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko in a deal valued at £73.7 million. The five-year agreement consists of a guaranteed payment of £66.3 million, with the remainder contingent upon additional performance-based payments.

The Slovenia international is United’s third major signing in the attacking department, following Matheus Cunha’s arrival for £62.5 million and Bryan Mbeumo’s signing for £65 million, including £6 million in add-ons.

“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future,” said Sesko.

“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.

“I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben and connecting with my team-mates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together.” He added.

Sesko, 22, was also wanted by Newcastle United but opted to join Ruben Amorim’s team.

Having spent the last two years in Germany with Leipzig after transferring from sister club Salzburg in 2023, he has netted 39 goals in 87 matches across all competitions, contributing eight assists, with 27 of those goals scored in 64 Bundesliga appearances.

Currently, Sesko is the leading goalscorer among players under 23 in Europe’s top five leagues across all competitions. He surpasses Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham by one goal and is five goals ahead of Florian Wirtz, who transferred to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £100 million this summer.

Sesko is noted as one of the quickest forwards in the Bundesliga, achieving a top speed of 35.7 km/h, and, aided by his height of 6ft 5in, he boasts the highest aerial success rate among strikers, winning 57.4% of aerial duels.
