Manchester United are reportedly set to make a £63.3m bid for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli in the upcoming January transfer window. The move comes as new manager Ruben Amorim seeks to address the club’s ongoing struggles with goalscoring.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United has already initiated talks with Osimhen’s representatives, putting them ahead of other interested clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, in the race to sign the striker. However, to secure Osimhen’s services, United would need to compensate Galatasaray, as the player is currently on loan at the Turkish club for the season.
Despite the growing interest, Osimhen has reiterated his commitment to Galatasaray, where he has been in excellent form since joining in September. After scoring twice in a 3-2 win over Tottenham, Osimhen said:
“I will not leave in January; I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about, but if they come to me, we will talk. Galatasaray is a nice club that I like very much.”
Osimhen has scored 12 goals and provided 5 assists in 15 appearances across all competitions for the Turkish side.
While Napoli’s release clause for Osimhen is set at £75m, reports suggest the Serie A club could be willing to accept a bid of £63.3m in January. Former Galatasaray coach Hamza Hamzaoğlu has raised concerns about the Turkish club’s ability to secure a permanent deal for Osimhen, citing financial difficulties.
Manchester United are enduring a challenging season, sitting 14th in the Premier League and scoring just 21 goals so far. After consecutive defeats to Bournemouth and Wolves, the team is closer to the relegation zone than the top four. Bringing in Osimhen could provide the attacking boost United desperately need to turn their season around.
