An unspecified number of people are feared dead, and several others are injured after bomb explosions struck areas around Monday Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, and also near a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
The blasts reportedly occurred at about 7:02 p.m. on Monday and were said to have detonated almost simultaneously.
Mohammed Kafaran, Head of Operations at the Federal Fire Service in Borno State, confirmed the incident to Punch News, saying emergency teams had been deployed to assess the situation.
He explained that the explosion occurred near the Monday Market area, near Elkanemi, and that responders were already on the ground to assess the damage.

“Yes, there was a bomb explosion at the Monday Market area around Elkanemi. We have deployed our team there to assess the situation. We will get back to you shortly.”
Eyewitnesses said several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. One witness said some bodies were seen at the scene, while many injured persons were being taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
“There were dead bodies on the ground, and many persons with wounds have been rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.”
Another resident, who asked not to be identified, said the blast occurred shortly after he left the post office. He said he suddenly heard a loud explosion while heading home.
Emergency responders are continuing rescue and assessment operations at the affected locations, with more details expected as authorities investigate the incident.
