Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead a Nigerian Government delegation to Kano following the recent fire outbreak at the Singa Market.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said that President Bola Tinubu directed the Vice President to visit the state to sympathise with victims and demonstrate the government’s support.
The delegation, expected to depart Abuja on Tuesday, will deliver the President’s condolences to traders affected by the weekend inferno, which reportedly destroyed goods worth billions of naira. The fire marks the second incident at the market within two weeks.
According to the statement, the team will also announce financial support for the victims and outline measures to assist the Kano State Government in reopening the market as quickly as possible.

Members of the delegation include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Senator Kawu Ismaila; and the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabir Bichi.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard Doro, and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar, are also part of the team.
President Tinubu had earlier spoken by telephone with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to receive a briefing on the incident and extended his sympathies to the traders and residents of Kano State.
The fire broke out on Saturday evening and burned into Sunday morning, causing widespread damage at what is considered one of Nigeria’s largest food markets.
The President has ordered a thorough investigation into the repeated market fires, stressing the need to prevent further losses and safeguard traders’ livelihoods.
