Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United’s newest signing from Brentford, expressed his excitement about playing alongside team captain Bruno Fernandes.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian winger finalised his move to Old Trafford last week in a deal worth £65 million ($87 million), with an additional £6 million in potential add-ons, signing a five-year contract.
Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals and provided seven assists for Brentford in the Premier League last season, is United’s third summer signing.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Mbeumo specifically highlighted Fernandes as the player he’s most looking forward to collaborating with.
“Everyone sees in the past years, he can shoot, he can cross, he can do crazy ball,” Mbeumo said, adding, “Yeah, for a striker, you just enjoy that.”
He hopes to benefit from the Portuguese midfielder’s experience, noting that Fernandes is “smart” on the pitch.
“You just need to make the run, and he’s going to play you in the right space every time,” Mbeumo explained, emphasising the intuitive connection he anticipates.
He also mentioned the possibility of small discussions to refine their understanding of his preferred passes.
Mbeumo’s arrival follows the earlier signings of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Paraguay left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno.
Manchester United have also been linked with other forwards, including Ollie Watkins, whom Mbeumo described as a “complete striker,” and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
United is currently on a summer tour in the United States, preparing for their Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17.
