Presenting recommendations of UN Plan of Action to the African Media Conference, Lydia Gachungi, Regional Adviser on Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists at UNESCO’s Liaison Office to the African Union & UNECA in Addis Ababa insists that attacks on journalists are attacks on freedom of expression, and that “…defending journalism is standing up for democracy.”

The Media Institute of South Africa (MISA) is leading the memorial supported by UNESCO with CIPESA, UNRCO, ACHPR among others. One of the many issues under the spotlight for discussion is online gender-based violence.
