Medical Issue Forces Cindy Ngamba Out of Professional Boxing Debut

Cindy Ngamba has been forced to pull out of her highly anticipated professional boxing debut after a pre-fight medical examination uncovered an issue requiring further assessment.

The 26-year-old, who made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by securing the EOC Refugee Team’s first-ever medal, was set to face two-time European welterweight champion Kristie Bavington on Friday (7 March) at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Her fight was part of an all-female boxing event, headlined by the world title unification bout between Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price.

Promoters BOXXER confirmed Ngamba’s withdrawal in a statement on Thursday (6 March):

“Cindy Ngamba will not be making her professional debut on Friday night after a pre-fight medical examination revealed an issue requiring further investigation. The health and safety of fighters remains the highest priority, and Cindy will undergo further tests in the coming days.”

Ngamba had chosen to turn professional following a remarkable 2024 campaign, where she won bronze in the women’s -75kg category and carried the Olympic Refugee Team’s flag at the Paris Opening Ceremony.

Ahead of her planned debut, she spoke of her excitement at being included in the event and revealed she had received advice from fellow fighter Lauren Price, whom she described as an amazing role model in her transition to the professional ranks.
