Messi Hat-Trick Seals Record-Breaking Win as Inter Miami Sets MLS Points Record

Lionel Messi scored his second hat-trick of the week, while Luis Suarez netted twice, as Inter Miami clinched a 6-2 victory against the New England Revolution, setting a new record for the most points in an MLS regular season.

The triumph, in Miami’s final game of the regular season, increased their tally to 74 points, surpassing New England’s previous record of 73, set in 2021.

Having already secured the Supporters’ Shield for the best regular season record, Inter Miami now heads into the MLS Cup playoffs as strong favourites.

Messi Hat-Trick Seals Record-Breaking Win as Inter Miami Sets MLS Points Record

Messi, who had scored a hat-trick for Argentina against Bolivia earlier in the week, came off the bench in the 58th minute and made an immediate impact. The Argentine maestro assisted Jordi Alba, who set up Benjamin Cremaschi for a tap-in to put Miami ahead.

New England appeared to equalise through Bobby Wood, but his effort was ruled out for handball following a VAR review.

Messi then took control, making it 4-2 after receiving a clever back-heel from Suarez and firing into the bottom corner. The Argentine captain scored again when he latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Alba, calmly slotting it past the keeper.

He completed his hat-trick in the 89th minute with a precise first-time finish from a volleyed cross by Suarez, capping off a record-breaking night for Inter Miami.
