Messi-less Inter Miami Held to Goalless Draw

Inter Miami were unable to close the gap on Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati after being held to a 0-0 stalemate in Major League Soccer on Saturday, with star forward Lionel Messi absent due to suspension.

Messi, along with fellow veteran Jordi Alba, was ruled out of the fixture at home in Fort Lauderdale following controversy surrounding their withdrawal from this week’s MLS All-Star Game in Texas. Both players were barred from participating in the league match as a result and were limited to watching from the sidelines.

Without their influential captain, Miami struggled to break down a disciplined Cincinnati side. The visitors nearly snatched victory in stoppage time when defender Miles Robinson found the net, only for the goal to be disallowed for an alleged foul on Inter’s Noah Allen — a decision that appeared harsh.

The draw means Miami remain seven points behind Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference table, missing a crucial opportunity to apply pressure at the top.

Despite the on-pitch frustrations, the club had cause for celebration off the field as they officially introduced new signing Rodrigo De Paul to the fans before kick-off. The World Cup-winning Argentine midfielder, who arrives from Atletico Madrid, is expected to make his debut during the upcoming Leagues Cup fixtures.

Speaking after his transfer was confirmed on Friday, De Paul expressed his ambition to make history with the Florida-based club, stating his drive to compete and win titles.

Co-owner David Beckham hailed the addition of De Paul as a major boost for the squad, highlighting the midfielder’s leadership and experience with both club and country. Beckham added that welcoming another World Cup winner to Inter Miami and Major League Soccer was a proud moment for the team.
