Meta has confirmed the acquisition of US technology startup Limitless, a company known for developing an artificial intelligence-powered wearable device that records, transcribes, and summarises conversations.
The deal was announced on Friday, although neither side revealed how much Meta agreed to pay for the five-year-old firm, which is based in Denver.
A spokesperson for Meta said the company was looking forward to integrating Limitless into its operations as part of its broader ambition to deepen its focus on AI-driven wearable technology.
Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has made artificial intelligence a central pillar of the company’s future, declaring a goal of delivering what he describes as “superintelligence” to users.

The company is already using AI to upgrade services across platforms such as Facebook and Instagram and is expanding the capabilities of its smart glasses, which are developed in partnership with eyewear manufacturer EssilorLuxottica.
Limitless co-founder and chief executive Dan Siroker said the startup shared Meta’s long-term vision and was excited to join the company in developing more advanced AI-powered devices.
Founded five years ago, Limitless has attracted about $33 million in investment from major backers, including venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, as well as OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, according to industry tracker Pitchbook.
The startup was most recently valued at $368 million during a funding round in 2023.
Siroker said the technology, once regarded as experimental, had now become widely accepted, adding that the future they had been building was increasingly becoming a reality.
To support his AI ambitions, Zuckerberg has also embarked on an aggressive hiring drive, recruiting top talent from companies such as OpenAI, Apple and Google with offers reported to run into billions of dollars.
Earlier this year, Meta made a major investment in Scale AI and appointed the company’s co-founder, Alexandr Wang, to lead a new internal division named Superintelligence Labs.
The Limitless takeover represents Meta’s largest known acquisition since it completed its purchase of virtual reality company Within Unlimited in 2023, following the dismissal of a legal challenge by US regulators.
That court ruling was widely viewed as a setback for the then-head of the US Federal Trade Commission, Lina Khan, who had pushed for tougher antitrust oversight of major technology companies.
