Twenty-four students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga, abducted by bandits and later rescued, have been handed over to the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris.

The Theatre Commander, Major General Idris Warrah, carried out the handover on Tuesday night in Birnin Kebbi on the instruction of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Warrah explained that troops were immediately deployed after the abduction and launched a vigorous chase after the bandits. He disclosed that Bagega Forest was identified as the site where the girls were held, and soldiers sealed off the area, blocking every entry and exit route.

“On the 19th of this month, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi to ensure the full return of all abducted schoolgirls. I am pleased to present the 24 rescued victims today. They are all here, healthy and unharmed—no deaths, no injuries,” he said.

The Theatre Commander advised that the girls undergo full medical examinations to confirm their health status.

He also conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for the support and cooperation received from the Kebbi State Government, the Minister of State for Defence, and all other security agencies involved in the rescue.

Receiving the girls, Governor Idris thanked Almighty God and expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for deploying the full resources of government to secure their release.

He praised the military, security agencies, and Matawalle for their commitment, coordination, and hard work throughout the operation.

The governor assured that the girls would receive thorough medical checks before being reunited with their parents.

He also thanked Nigerians for their prayers, sympathy, and support, especially religious leaders and dignitaries who visited or reached out during the difficult period.
