Wilfried Zaha made a dream start to life in Major League Soccer, scoring on his debut for Charlotte FC in a 2-0 victory over Atlanta United, while Israeli forward Tai Baribo stole the show with a hat-trick in the Philadelphia Union’s 4-1 win over Cincinnati.
Former Crystal Palace winger Zaha, on loan from Galatasaray, was instrumental in front of a packed 51,002 crowd at the Bank of America Stadium. He assisted the opening goal for Pep Biel before showing quick reactions to net his own in the 10th minute.
Charlotte manager Dean Smith hailed Zaha’s impact, praising both his attacking brilliance and defensive work.
Meanwhile, Baribo’s clinical finishing helped Philadelphia continue their impressive start to the season. The Union, under new coach Bradley Carnell, have now netted eight goals in their opening two games. Baribo opened the scoring early before linking up with Daniel Gazdag for two more goals, securing a dominant win.
Elsewhere, the New York Red Bulls earned a 2-0 victory over Nashville, thanks to goals from Mohammed Safo and Swedish star Emil Forsberg. Chicago Fire and D.C. United played out a thrilling 2-2 draw, with Christian Benteke missing a stoppage-time penalty before Jacob Murrell’s spectacular bicycle kick secured a point for D.C.
In California, Ryan Hollingshead’s late strike sealed a 1-0 win for Los Angeles FC over New York City FC, while San Diego FC’s home debut ended in a goalless draw against St. Louis City.
