A violent mob lynched a man and burned him alive after a reported dispute at Kokami village in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, who revealed this in a statement, disclosed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.

Sadiq identified the victim as one KC Joe. The police spokesperson said the victim was lynched after he stabbed a man, Ibrahim Auwal, over an argument about the purchase of garri and sachet water at K. C. Jones ‘ shop. The incident attracted the attention of a mob that set fire to KC Joe.

“What started as a minor argument quickly turned violent. Joe reportedly stabbed Ibrahim Khalil Auwal during the altercation. The victim was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai, where he was later confirmed dead,” said Sadiq.

“Following the news of his death, some angry youths in the community mobilised, attacked Joe, killed him, and set his body ablaze along the highway.”

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, condemned the unfortunate incident, urging members of the public to always report issues to the nearest police station and to avoid taking the law into their own hands.

Reacting to the incident, Katsina State’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa, assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

“Katsina State Government strongly assures that all those involved in the violence will be brought to justice. No individual has the right to take the law into their hands. Those responsible for both the initial attack and the reprisal killing will be identified and prosecuted.” said Danmusa.
