Canada-based firm, Bombardier Incorporated is selling its wing component-making plant in Morocco to an undisclosed manufacturer.
The proposed new owners will reportedly continue to supply Bombardier after the sale. This was disclosed by Morocco’s Industry Minister, Moulay Hafid Elalamy.
The firm says it will unite its corporate and regional jet units into one aviation division as part of its divestment strategy. It, however, plans to sell off both the Belfast and Casablanca plants.
Bombardier’s spokesperson, Olivier Marcil confirmed the proposed sale and that the new owners will still supply Bombardier for some time. The Moroccan plant engages 140 other small or medium sized firms.
Morocco’s aerospace industry employs 16,700 people in the country and earned 13.9 billion dirhams from exports in 2018, up 13.8 per cent compared to the previous year according to official figures.
