Morocco’s Unemployment Rate Rises to 13.3% in 2024

Morocco’s unemployment rate has climbed to 13.3% in 2024, up from 13% the previous year, according to data released today by the Commission for Planning (HCP).

The report reveals that the number of unemployed individuals in the country increased by 58,000 this year, bringing the total to 1,638,000. Unemployment in urban areas remained significantly high at 16.9%, while rural areas saw an increase from 6.3% to 6.8%.

Youth unemployment remains a pressing issue, with 36.7% of Moroccans aged 15-24 currently out of work.

Despite these challenges, the labour market generated 82,000 new jobs in 2024. The commission also projected a 3.8% GDP growth in 2025, driven by expansion in both the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors.
