Sera Motebang, a forward based in South Africa, secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for Lesotho over Seychelles on Sunday.

Competing in the second leg of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations preliminary qualifiers, Motebang connected with an 82nd-minute header to seal the win.

The match was held in Bloemfontein, South Africa, as neither nation currently possesses a stadium meeting international standards.

The contest began with Seychelles taking a surprise lead late in the first half through Brandon Labrosse.

However, Lesotho responded quickly after the break, with Lebohang Lesako equalising just five minutes into the second period.

While Seychelles held a temporary advantage on away goals following a scoreless first leg, Motebang’s late strike ensured Lesotho’s progression into the main qualifying draw scheduled to begin this September.

In other qualifying action, South Sudan advanced to the next round despite suffering a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Djibouti.

Although South Sudan dominated the first leg with a 4-0 win, they struggled in a quiet, spectator-free stadium in Juba.

With the preliminary round concluding this week, the successful teams will join 42 others in the group stages as they vie for a spot in the 2027 tournament hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
