The Federal Government revealed intentions to build a N1.5 trillion light rail line in Kano city. Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, said the project seeks to solve transportation issues in the city and improve the economy of the state.
Abubakar added, “The Kano metropolis light rail project is preparing to be procured. For those that traveled abroad, especially Europe and Asia, have seen such projects over there and know its importance.” The legislator stressed the project will have a major influence on the transportation system and economy of the state.

He also countered claims that President Bola Tinubu is uninterested in the northern area by mentioning several infrastructural projects started by the President. “It is funny for some people to say President Tinubu is not interested in this part of the country,” he said. “The president has initiated so many laudable projects in the northern part of the country.”
The Kano-Hadejia Road project, the Kaduna-Abuja Road project, and the practically finished Kaduna-Zaria-Kano project are a few of the noteworthy ones mentioned. Rep. Abubakar believes these initiatives will help the area to develop its infrastructure and economy. “The Kaduna-Abuja project, which is about 400km, the president had revoked the initial contract and re-awarded it to another company,” he said. “The new contractor has moved to the site and has done well so far. The project, based on my discussion with the Minister of works, would be completed before the end of the first quarter of next year.”
The Kano light rail project should lower travel expenses, boost the economy, and raise residents’ general quality of life. The Federal Government’s substantial funding of infrastructure shows its dedication to improving mobility, growth and developement.
