NAFDAC Approves Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Nigeria has approved the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in the west African country.

The Pfizer vaccine becomes the second vaccine to be approved in the country following the authorisation of Oxford-Astrazeneca jabs few months ago.

Announcing this at a press conference in Lagos, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye, explained that the Pfizer-BioTech vaccine is for emergency use only.

She added that the vaccine can now be stored between -15oC to -25oC equivalent to freezer temperature.

The Africa CDC, has reported that 17.9 million COVID-19 doses have been administered, out of the over 37.1 million acquired by member states.

So far, Nigeria has administered 1.2 million COVID-19 vaccines, which amounts to 0.57 percent of the population fully vaccinated.
