The Prosecutor’s Office in Rome has officially sought a trial for Napoli’s President Aurelio De Laurentiis and the club concerning alleged financial irregularities linked to the transfers of Kostas Manolas from AS Roma and Victor Osimhen from Lille.
Reports indicate that the request also targets Napoli’s CEO, Andrea Chiavelli.
Prosecutors have expressed concerns regarding possible falsification of financial records during 2019, 2020, and 2021. The investigation focuses on suspected inflated capital gains related to player transactions, specifically the signings of Manolas in 2019 and Osimhen in 2020.
Victor Osimhen was signed by Napoli in 2020 for a reported fee of €70 million. Nonetheless, as part of the agreement, Napoli sent four players to Lille for approximately €20 million.

The valuation of three of these players has come under scrutiny from investigators, as it may have contributed to artificially inflating financial figures.
The trial request implies that De Laurentiis, Chiavelli, and the club might confront judicial proceedings. However, the ramifications in terms of sports justice vary.
In 2022, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) had closed the Osimhen investigation, previously exonerating De Laurentiis.
If new developments result in the case being reopened, the Napoli president could face suspension, while the club might incur financial penalties or, in the worst-case scenario, a deduction of points in the current Serie A season.
The next few months will reveal whether the case moves forward to trial and if Napoli faces any additional consequences in Italian football.
