NCAA Summons Air Peace Over Persistent Flight Delays

Polish artist Mario, sculptor of St. Simon the Tanner Monastery complex, works on a scene at the church in the Egyptian capital Cairo's eastern hillside Mokkatam district, on May 30, 2019. - Mario spent more than two decades carving the rugged insides of the seven cave churches and chapels of the rock-hewn St. Simon Monastery and church complex atop Cairo's Mokkatam hills, with designs inspired by biblical stories. It was all done to fulfil the wishes of the church's parish priest who met Mario in the early 1990s in Cairo. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Air Peace Limited over repeated flight delays and cancellations that continue to inconvenience the travelling public.

In a statement released on Friday by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the regulator voiced concern over the airline’s operational difficulties and stressed the need for urgent corrective measures.

The statement followed a meeting held at the authority’s headquarters in Abuja, where the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Captain Chris Najomo, met with senior members of Air Peace’s management.

During the meeting, Captain Najomo advised the airline to “scale down operations to match the number of serviceable aircraft in its fleet” in order to reduce disruptions and restore passenger confidence.

“The NCAA has received numerous complaints about chronic flight cancellations and delays, and this must be tackled without delay,” he stated. “While the NCAA remains supportive of airlines, operators must adhere to existing regulations and uphold global best practices.”

He further warned that the authority is increasing its surveillance of all Nigerian carriers to ensure strict compliance with flight schedules and operational standards.

According to Achimugu, Air Peace acknowledged experiencing operational difficulties, which it described as “not unusual in the aviation sector.” However, the airline assured the authority it is working tirelessly to resolve the problems and improve service quality.

Captain Najomo reaffirmed the NCAA’s zero-tolerance policy on operational lapses and warned that airlines failing to meet regulatory standards would face appropriate sanctions.
