Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a large consignment of cocaine concealed in heads of imported dry stock fish intended to be exported to India.

The agency’s spokesperson, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the successful operation followed intelligence on their trans-border criminal activities.

According to Babafemi,  the operatives recovered 237 wraps of cocaine, weighing 5.80 kilograms, concealed inside stockfish heads locally known as “okporoko,” in three jumbo bags allegedly in possession of a 36-year-old suspect identified as Akputa Dickson Ejike.

The NDLEA spokesperson added that operatives intercepted two illicit consignments at a courier company, bound for the United Kingdom, on March 25.

According to him, one of the shipments that originated from Cotonou, Benin Republic, 1.9 kilograms of methamphetamine were found concealed in automobile filters, while the second parcel contains 40 ampoules of Morphine Sulphate and nine ampoules of Fentanyl.

NDLEA operatives also aided the house of a female head of a notorious drug syndicate, 46-year-old Omolade Abigail Jolayemi, at 13 Carter Street, Yaba, Lagos, where they arrested her and her 31-year-old sales girl, Sarah Zainab Agbabiaka.

The SOU operatives also arrested Anayo Lucky Ohabiro, 39, at Doyin bus stop in Surulere, Lagos, on the same day. A total of 78 blocks of Ghana Loud weighing 41kg were seized from him.

He further disclosed that an 80-year-old suspect, Oke Samuel, was arrested during a special raid at Erinmo road, Efon-Alaaye in Ekiti State, with 2.2 kilograms of skunk and methamphetamine, while another suspect was arrested in Ondo State with 894.72 kilograms of skunk recovered from an uncompleted building.

In Edo state, NDLEA operatives uncovered a warehouse in Ekpoma town, Esan West LGA, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect, Felix Donald and the seizure of 576.5kg of skunk and 33 bottles of codeine-based syrup.

The NDLEA also embarked on similar operations in Benue, Edo and Taraba states, which led to multiple seizures, including skunk, codeine-based syrup, and cannabis concealed in animal feed, with several suspects arrested.
