Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) in Edo State have intercepted 125 bags of suspected cannabis weighing 1,378kg during a raid, authorities said.
State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this on Monday, adding that the seizure followed an operation at a warehouse in the Igbanke community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, where the illicit substances were discovered.
He said that a 37-year-old suspect, identified as Roland Owie, was arrested in connection with the bust.
Ofoyeju described the operation as a major setback for drug trafficking networks, noting that the volume seized would have otherwise found its way into communities, with harmful consequences, particularly for young people.
“This successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression.
“The seizure of 125 bags of dry cannabis weighing 1,378 kilograms in a single operation represents a significant blow to the distribution network of these harmful substances.

“The importance of intercepting such a large quantity is highlighted by the fact that it prevents drugs from reaching our streets, schools, and communities, thereby protecting countless young people from the devastating scourge of addiction.”
He said the agency remains focused on disrupting supply chains, stressing that removing large quantities of drugs from circulation weakens criminal networks and improves public safety.
The commander warned that Edo would not serve as a safe haven for drug-related activities, adding that the agency would continue to intensify enforcement through intelligence-led operations.
He also commended officers involved in the raid and urged residents to support ongoing efforts by providing credible information to security agencies.
