Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer has been ruled out of Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 match against Atalanta after sustaining a new calf injury.

The veteran goalkeeper suffered a minor muscle tear during Bayern’s 4-1 Bundesliga victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.

While the club has not officially confirmed a recovery timeline, reports suggest Neuer could be sidelined for at least two weeks, potentially missing both legs of the European tie and a key domestic fixture against Bayer Leverkusen.

This latest setback adds to a string of calf-related issues for Neuer, who turns 40 later this month.

He has already missed multiple games this season due to similar fitness concerns, following a 10-game absence during the previous campaign.

The timing of the injury is particularly notable given that Neuer’s current contract with the German giants is set to expire at the end of this season.

Having retired from international football in August 2024, Neuer’s future at the club remains a subject of speculation.

The World Cup winner has yet to announce whether he intends to extend his stay at Bayern Munich for another year or if this season will mark the conclusion of his illustrious career.
