Rapper Nicki Minaj has declared that she is U.S. President Donald Trump’s “number one fan,” saying public criticism of him has only strengthened her support.
Speaking on Wednesday after Trump invited her during an event promoting “Trump Accounts,” which provide trust funds for children, Minaj said she would not be swayed by opponents’ attacks against him.
“I will say that I am probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change,” she said, adding that criticism “does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more.”
Minaj, 43, also condemned what she called smear campaigns against Trump.
“I will not let his opponents get away with bullying him. He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him,” she said.
Once a critic of Trump’s immigration policies, the Trinidadian star has shifted in recent years to publicly praising his leadership, including making a surprise appearance at the United Nations last November to call for an end to faith-based persecution in Nigeria.
