Niger Abduction: Gunmen Release 11 Children

Eleven of the children abducted at the Salihu Tanko Islamic School, Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State have been released for being too small and unable to walk.

Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State governor, Mary Noel-Berje said the abductors came in armed on 70 motorcycles and 17 communities in Lavun, Rafi and Wushishi areas of the state were attacked.

The attack on Wushishi led to the death of one person while several others got drowned as they tried to swim across River Kaduna.

She described the situation as a crisis that can be taken like a war situation and not be delayed.

Noel-Bethe in her statement also added that ore than people are reported to be having treatments across the communities attacked by the gunmen.

Niger has come under the pressure of armed gunmen in recent months with the Kagara school abduction still fresh in the minds of many.
