The Nigerian government has cancelled the Independence Day parade originally scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, while assuring citizens that the country’s 65th anniversary will still be marked with dignity and enthusiasm.
A statement from Segun Imohiosen, Director of Press in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on Monday, confirmed the decision and stressed that other planned anniversary events would proceed as arranged.
“The cancellation in no way diminishes the significance of this milestone,” the statement read, adding that the government “deeply regrets any inconvenience” caused by the change.
The Nigerian government expressed appreciation to Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community and invited guests for their understanding and support, urging the public to back President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms aimed at building a stronger nation.
