Nigeria has congratulated Ghana on its 69th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the diplomatic and cultural relationship between the two nations.
The message was conveyed by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, in a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
Tuggar extended his congratulations to his Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as Ghana marks its independence from colonial rule on March 6, 1957.
The minister described Ghana’s independence as a landmark moment in Africa’s liberation struggle, noting that it inspired several countries across the continent, including Nigeria, to pursue sovereignty and self-determination.
He acknowledged the country’s continued contributions to democratic governance, regional integration, and peaceful development across Africa.
Tuggar noted that both countries share deep historical and cultural connections rooted in common experiences and aspirations for unity, peace, and prosperity on the continent.
According to him, Nigeria and Ghana have remained key drivers of democratic stability in West Africa. He added that relations between the two nations have continued to expand through high-level engagements and collaboration across several sectors, including trade, investment, education, energy, defence, migration management, and cultural exchange.

The minister also noted that the free movement of people between both countries under regional frameworks has strengthened economic interactions and deepened people-to-people ties.
He commended the resilience and innovation of the Ghanaian people as the country celebrates this year’s anniversary under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”
“As Ghana celebrates its independence this year under the theme ‘Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,’ Nigeria commends the resilience, creativity and determination of the Ghanaian people in advancing national development and strengthening democratic institutions,” he said.
The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Ghana through deeper economic cooperation, diplomatic engagement, and cultural exchange, expressing confidence that the partnership would continue to grow in support of regional prosperity and a more unified Africa.
