The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has announced the launch of a new Nigerian Tax Identification portal, which will go live on January 1, 2026, as part of efforts to modernise and simplify tax administration in the country.
The JRB, in collaboration with the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS), said in a statement on Monday that the portal will provide a single, system-generated Tax Identification number for all taxable persons in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the Tax Identification number, known as Tax ID, will serve as a unique, system-generated number assigned to all taxable persons in Nigeria for tax administration.
For individuals, the Tax ID will be linked to the National Identification Number (NIN), while for businesses and organisations, it will be linked to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number.

The board said taxpayers can retrieve their Tax ID by visiting www.taxid.jrb.gov.ng or www.taxid.nrs.gov.ng.
To retrieve a Tax ID, individuals are required to select the “Individual” option on the portal, choose NIN, enter their 11-digit NIN, and provide their first name, last name and date of birth exactly as captured by the National Identity Management Commission. The system will then generate a 13-digit Tax ID.
For non-individuals, including companies and registered organisations, users are required to select the “Corporate” option, choose the appropriate organisation type, enter their CAC registration number, and retrieve the 13-digit Tax ID.
“The Nigerian Tax ID Portal is now live and accessible to all taxpayers across Nigeria, starting January 1, 2026. For further assistance, taxpayers are encouraged to visit the portal or contact their nearest tax office.”
