Nigeria has been selected to host the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), marking a significant milestone for the country’s growing reputation in global communications and public relations practice.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Annual General Meeting and Conference in Abuja. The forum, he said, will attract experts, policymakers, and practitioners from around the world to discuss emerging trends, ethics, and the future of strategic communication.

Idris described the selection as a recognition of Nigeria’s leadership in advancing professional communication standards and promoting truth-based public engagement. He noted that the hosting right was secured following a successful bid presentation to the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management.

“The 2026 forum will showcase Nigeria’s dynamism, diversity, and commitment to credible communication. It presents an opportunity to project the country’s image positively and foster international collaboration,” the minister said.

He assured stakeholders that the Nigerian Government would provide full support to ensure the event’s success, adding that it would stimulate economic activities, tourism, and professional exchange.

The President of NIPR, Dr Ike Neliaku, expressed appreciation to the government for its backing, describing the event as a platform that would reinforce Nigeria’s role as a communication powerhouse in Africa. He highlighted that the forum will also serve as a springboard for discussions on ethical reforms, media literacy, and nation-building.

Preparations for the event are expected to commence immediately, with a national planning committee to be inaugurated in the coming weeks.
