The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Idiroko Border has seized large consignments of hard drugs and other prohibited items valued at over ₦2.6 billion.
The acting controller of the command, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the command’s activities during his first 11 days in office.
He said officers intercepted 16 kilogrammes of heroin, 12 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) and 1,502 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa during six intelligence-led operations carried out between 4 and 15 December 2025 across Ogun State.
According to Afeni, the seizures occurred along major smuggling routes, including the Lusada/Ado-Odo axis, Abule Kazeem/Igbo-Ora Road, Abeokuta axis, Imeko axis, Idiroko/Owode axis and Ipokia.

Other confiscated items included 4,998 cartons of Doga brand spaghetti and 419 cartons of Oba brand spaghetti, each weighing 10 kg and illegally imported from Turkey, as well as 2,200 kegs of 25-litre vegetable oil of Indonesian origin.
He noted that officers also seized 6,750 litres of premium motor spirit, 4,738 bags of foreign parboiled rice, two foreign-used vehicles and 309 bundles of used pneumatic tyres.
Afeni expressed concern over the volume of crystal meth and cannabis sativa intercepted, warning that such drugs pose serious threats to youths, public health and national security.
He noted that, alongside enforcement duties, the command generated ₦27.29 million in revenue as of December 16, 2025, attributing the achievement to the commitment of officers and cooperation from compliant traders.
The Acting Controller commended sister security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and informants for their support, and warned smugglers to stay away from Ogun State, stressing that the command remains vigilant.
He also confirmed that Customs had handed over the seized narcotics to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Idiroko Special Command, for further action.
