The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) says Nigeria’s crude oil production has increased from about 960,000 barrels per day in 2022 to an average of 1.71 million barrels per day, with peak production reaching 1.84 million barrels per day in 2025.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this on Wednesday during a parliamentary roundtable on pipeline security held at the National Assembly of Nigeria in Abuja.

Ojulari said the increase was not accidental and that it involved an “integrated energy security model that combines legislative and executive policy alignment, actionable intelligence, kinetic deployment capabilities, regulatory oversight, industry cooperation, and community‑embedded surveillance mechanisms”.

He said that the rise in production, made possible by effectively addressing the twin threats of oil theft and widespread pipeline sabotage, has restored investors’ faith in the country’s oil and gas sector.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim spoke on behalf of the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, at the forum’s welcome address. He asked the forum to review the progress made so far to ensure it is fair and just.

The Parliamentary Roundtable on the State of Pipeline Security was convened by the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources.

It was attended by the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defence, and representatives of oil industry regulatory agencies.

The Roundtable also featured presentations by the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and private security companies.
