Samson Adamu Named CAF Acting Secretary-General

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as its Acting Secretary-General. Adamu replaces DR Congo’s Veron Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down to contest the presidential election of his country’s football federation (FECOFA).

His appointment was approved on Sunday during a CAF congress meeting at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. He had previously served as CAF’s Director of Competitions.

As Secretary-General, Adamu is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the CAF, legal matters, and the implementation of decisions made by the executive committee.

“His nomination was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and ratified by the congress at its meeting held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Cairo.”

Adamu is the first Nigerian to occupy the position since the organisation’s establishment over 70 years ago.
