The Supreme Court of Nigeria has introduced a new digital portal to streamline the appointment process for Notaries Public, which now permits lawyers to submit their applications entirely online.

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motomori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, gave approval for the initiative, which is being hailed as a landmark shift in modernising the judiciary’s operations.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 1, Dr Festus Akande, the Court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, said the move demonstrates the judiciary’s “unwavering commitment to embracing digital innovation, enhancing efficiency, and fostering greater accessibility within the legal community.”

The Supreme Court explained that the paper-based process, often described as cumbersome, would be replaced with a faster, more transparent system that reduces administrative burdens and accelerates application reviews.

Interested and qualified legal practitioners are now required to submit their applications through the official portal, https://notary.gov.ng, which has been designed to provide a seamless, step-by-step experience.

The launch of the digital platform is expected to usher in a new era of convenience and efficiency in the notarial appointment process, signalling the judiciary’s increasing adoption of technology in its operations.
