The Nigerian government has charged nine suspected terrorists over an attack on the Yelwata community in Benue State, where about 150 people were killed in June 2025.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, led the prosecution before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court on Monday.

Fagbemi told the court that 57 amended charges had been filed against the defendants.

He said that although 10 people were earlier listed, the prosecution asked the court to strike out the name of the sixth defendant, Yakubu Mamman.

The defence lawyers did not oppose the request, and the court struck out Mamman’s name from the case.

The defence lawyers include Ibrahim Angulu, also a SAN; A. I. Kaura and Adamu Abdullahi.

Fagbemi also asked the court to replace the earlier charges filed on September 10, 2025, with the amended charges filed on January 20.

The amended case is marked FHC/ABJ/CR/471/2025.

The court granted the request and struck out the old charges.

Fagbemi then moved to have the amended charges read to the defendants so they could enter pleas. The court approved the request.

The nine suspects are Ardo Lawal Mohammed, Muhammadu Saidu, Haruna Abdullahi, Yakubu Adamu, Muhammed Musa, Abubakar Adamu, Shaibu Ibrahim, Saleh Mohammed, and Bako Jibrin.

At the time this report was filed, a court official was reading the 57 counts to the defendants.
