The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has stated that he remains the party’s leader in the state, rejecting attempts by some ward executives to remove him from office.
Dungurawa spoke barely 24 hours after executives of Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area announced a resolution claiming to have expelled him from the party.
He described the action as illegal and beyond the powers of the ward executives, stressing that his position at the national level insulated him from such decisions.
The NNPP chairman also expressed surprise at the development, stating that he did not even recognise some of those involved and remained unaware of the basis for their action.

Dungurawa further warned that those parading themselves as party leaders would face legal consequences, as steps would be taken to arrest them for impersonation.
He also hinted at positive developments regarding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s political direction, following his earlier appeal urging the governor not to leave the NNPP.
According to him, there had been progress since the appeal as he expressed confidence that the governor would remain in the party.
Dangurawa’s reaction followed a resolution reportedly signed by 27 Gargari Ward executive members, who accused him of fostering divisions within the party, instigating internal crises, failing to pay party dues, and making abusive comments against the governor.
Dungurawa, however, dismissed the allegations as baseless, insisting that his leadership of the NNPP in Kano State remains intact.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s ideals, stressing the need for unity, discipline and adherence to the party’s constitution.
The Kano NNPP has been grappling with internal tensions in recent weeks, particularly amid speculation about a possible defection by Governor Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress, a move that has divided the party.
Dungurawa urged party members to remain calm, law-abiding and focused on strengthening the NNPP in the state, assuring that all leadership disputes would be resolved through constitutional means.
