The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Monday dismissed reports that bandits attempted to hijack an aeroplane at the Akure Airport in Ondo State on Sunday.
The claim was circulated on X by user @Admiral_Cyborg, who alleged that bandits tried to seize a plane in broad daylight.
“While we were busy talking about Nasboi and VDM, bandits tried to hijack a plane in broad daylight, at Akure Airport. Let me rephrase, bandits attempted to seize and take control of a Plane in Ondo State,” @Admiral_Cyborg wrote.
But FAAN, in posts on X, said that its earlier statement on a security operation near the airport did not indicate a hijacking incident.
There was no part of the press release that mentioned or suggested a ‘hijack.’ Please refer to the official statement for accurate information. https://t.co/OpexPFSau4

The authority also debunked a viral image circulating online, which shows a dramatic scene of heavily armed individuals shooting at people near the airport gate.

FAAN said the image is “entirely false and does not represent any incident at Akure Airport. No gory scene occurred as depicted.”

News Central TV had earlier reported that four suspected bandits were arrested within the vicinity of the airport following a coordinated security operation involving aviation and local security agencies.
The arrests followed a distress alert about suspicious individuals behind the airport perimeter near the Eleyewo community.
