The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed a viral social media claim that kitchen staff at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa were arrested for allegedly attempting to poison President Bola Tinubu.

The allegation circulated widely on platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and WhatsApp, accompanied by short video clips and captions such as “Aso Rock Presidential Kitchen staff arrested over an attempt to poison President Tinubu” and “Breaking: Tension In Presidential Villa After Kitchen Staff Reportedly Arrested.”

Thousands of people viewed and shared the content in a short period, and some users expressed concerns about national security.

One X user wrote that repeated attempts had been made against the president, adding, “Now, poisoning his food is the latest means put in place to remove him, and once again, they have failed. Tinubu is unbeatable….”

Responding to the claims, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said on his X account that “No Aso Rock kitchen staff arrested.”

“No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu,” Onanuga added on Sunday.

“Please ignore this fake news being disseminated by this video.”

Another presidential aideTemitope Ajayi, tweeted that “the trending video about a poison attempt on President Tinubu and the arrest of an Aso Villa cook is fake and totally unfounded. There is no truth to it. It should be disregarded.”
